This painting was done very quickly because heavy rain was predicted. The colours used were Prussian green with pink and red touches here and there; also ultramarine and light touches of yellow ochre with orange for the lower part of the sky were included. The light and reflections over the river were again amazing.

Painting on the Humber
I’ve been exploring painting on the humber recently at the moment just generally humber and sky. I have been attempting different approaches as to the painting of this what I think can be a difficult subject often; generally have been trying to convey the subject in an impressionistic manner. Most of the paintings have been done on site to try to capture the ever changing light.
The humber and sky , as subject, some might say; not a lot there, but have found that there is always something of interest such as a particular cloud formation or sometimes great shadows upon the river, and reflection of clouds upon water, also the dramatic rainbow.

“Used a circular motion with quite a large brush to capture a rather heavy sky over the river.”
“Here with the sun shining very brightly, the light over the river appeared very much nearer greenish yellow to me; attempted using a cross hatching effect to try to capture this.”
“This painting was painted roughly an hour before dusk ; the boat shown was just turning to show full stern, interesting shades of colour, which I tried to capture.”
